Goldilocks Perfect
Too Thick, Too Heavy, or Just Right

Two great international companies who made signet rings for the world did everything right, except, they made their rings with too much gold. The German company made the top too thick. They said it was for, “superior wear”. True, except the ring was not balanced. It didn’t look good and women simply didn’t like it.

Then there was the English company. For 200 years they made rings for the Royal family, aristocrats and the landed gentry. The English rings had heavy shanks, the part of the ring that went around the back side of the finger. These rings, we felt, were made for jousting knights in shinning armor. The rings were indestructible, but so unnecessarily heavy that they were universally uncomfortable.

The Lady’s Greenwich is a great American ring, designed to be comfortable, to sit naturally low on the hand. The ring is made in America, the engraving is done in America. Greenwich is aesthetically pleasing and presents beautifully on the hand. It is Cross’ best lady’s monogram ring and is goldilocks perfect.

Engraving Etiquette

Traditionally, a three initial monogram is engraved in the following order: first name initial (small), last name initial (large and in the middle), and the middle name last (small).

Example: Heather Rachel Wilson would have a monogram reading HWR. Ribbon Script engraving allows the letters to flow together.

Why Hand Engraving?

Hand engraving is first sketched out on the surface. And then with a steel graver, hand cut into gold. The letters are cut deep enough to last over a hundred years. The bright reflective surface of the cuts allow the letters to stand out on the surface of the ring. Ribbon script hand engraving is an art that allows the letters to flow into one another gracefully.

An initial ring or a crest ring is one of the most durable of all rings worn by man or woman…smooth surfaces, no gems to wear, or prongs to catch. It’s a great go to ring for the right hand, for virtually all weekend activities or for travel anywhere in world.
