Sapphire and Diamond Ring

For seven years, I was a member of a proprioceptive writing group. We met twice a month. In my writing, two or three times a year, I would write about my desire to visit a Greek island with a cottage on a hill looking west. I wrote about it, yet, I never went. As a jeweler, though, I thought about this ring with a blue sapphire surrounded by white diamonds every time I wrote about my imagined Greek Island.

The ring is made from 26 little precision-cut natural Earth mines diamonds. 1,508 tiny flat surfaces have been polished onto the surfaces of this collection of diamonds. I work with diamonds every day, but if I really think about it, taking a tiny crystal of pure carbon and polishing 58 tiny precision facets onto the hardest substance in the universe, I am left in awe.

Each of these diamonds is smaller than the head of a pin. By day, the diamonds glitter prettily. Hugely impressive? No. After the sun goes down, though, the diamonds become a dazzling form of fireworks on your hand. Each gem captures light inside, sparkling like and ancient starlight fire. The diamonds rise up from the east and west to circle the blue sapphire in the center. This is a pure blue, a true blue, a brilliant blue gem sapphire from the other side of the Earth. The gems cover the upper half of the ring, as you look upon your hand, you will see nothing but gem brilliance.
