I live by the shore. Every night moon or not, I go out to the porch railing and look to the sea. I go to see what is happening on the ocean. My favorite time of month are the nights of the approaching full moon, and full moon I like the sparkly light on the water. I know by day, sky and sea are blue and that sparkly light occurs both by day and night.

The sapphire is awesome. It’s a brilliant pastel blue. It’s a cushion cut, a big gem weighing 2.91 carats. We know the gem well. It was part of an 1890’s bracelet of primitive cut gems of a Ceylon type color. The gems were not sparkly but of awesome color. We asked Sean Sweeny to recut all the gems he did and most lost more than ½ their weight. The finished gems though were spectacular because Sean was America’s best gem cutter. Because of how we acquired the gem the sapphire is an excellent value. There were seven gems this was the biggest and best.

We designed a simple necklace surrounding the sapphire with natural earth-mined diamonds. At the top we placed a marquise diamond. The 18-inch chain slides freely behind the marquise. 18-inches allows the necklace to land two inches from your heart.
