Alice Blue Maine Tourmaline Ring
The Lady Captain’s ring is a Cross classic and one of our signature designs loved for its eye-catching, double-horizontal, double-vertical pattern. The two parallel bars either side of center are captain’s bars. In this Lady Captain’s ring we set the tourmaline north-south, creating a fresh, clean look for an updated yet traditional style. The low profile, easy to wear design makes it ideal for every-day wear.

America’s First Princess
Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt was president of the United States 1901-1909. First daughter Alice Roosevelt (Princess Alice), head strong, opinionated, became an instant celebrity and fashion icon at age 17 as she moved into the White House. At her social debut in 1902 she wore a gown of a color that was to become known forever afterwards as “Alice Blue”.
Alice loved blue. Alice wore blue and was seen everywhere, sparking a color trend in woman’s clothing and fashion for an entire generation.
Alice Blue Tourmaline
We are now ready to reveal the second discovery
Alice’s influence on color fashion was so powerful, following the discovery of tourmaline at the Havey mine in Poland, Maine in 1910, where the majority of the tourmaline color at this site was mint green, a most unusual small gem pocket was opened with blue crystals. The discovery of this pocket and its crystals became known as Alice Blue tourmaline.
It’s been over 100 years since the first find of Alice Blue. We are now ready to reveal the second discovery of Alice Blue tourmaline. This new Alice Blue gem pocket was opened June 6th and 7th 2017. During the summer of 2017, gems were cut, possessing an icy-white, aquamarine-like color. During the fall of 2017, jewelry was made. We are introducing our Alice Blue Maine Tourmaline Collection late fall – Christmas 2017.
Based on the crystal count, and our “round one” cutting, the pieces of jewelry in this special Alice Blue Maine Tourmaline Collection will be fewer than 70 pieces. Nature does not give up blue easily. Alice Blue tourmaline is precious, rare, and exotic. This is a once in several lifetimes occurrence. My great-grandfather William Cross had just opened his jewelry store in 1908 when the first find of Alice Blue occurred. Great colored-gem finds are rare and are often limited occurrences. Blue Maine tourmaline is precious and we are privileged to have the opportunity to bring Alice Blue tourmaline to market for a second time. –RHP
Rare Alice Blue Available Again After 100 Years
Alice Blue, as gem tourmaline, is best described as possessing an aquamarine-like color with just a hint, the slightest hint, of green. The first five gems we cut from Alice Blue crystals were oval, emerald-cut, and cushion; and they missed capturing the blue color. We turned to the twilight-cut for subsequent gems and they all came out true Alice Blue. Gems have been cut, jewelry is made, and a limited number of Alice Blue tourmaline jewelry is again available. Don’t wait. Rare blue tourmaline always goes quickly.
