Natural Maps of the World Necklaces

I’m a map lover, my Aunt my Mothers sister was a map lover. When I was five and she was nineteen, one afternoon she and I sat on the beach and she drew maps on the sand. She explained Egypt to me and what mysteries were there, the pyramids, the sphinx. She talked of the world and all the places she would go. As the years passed she traveled to exotic destinations all over the world with maps and cameras in tow to record its beauty and mysteries.

Natural Maps of The World
As Seen From Space

I’m a map lover, my Aunt, my Mother’s sister was a map lover. When I was five and she was nineteen, one afternoon she and I sat on the beach and she drew maps on the sand. She explained Egypt to me and the mysteries that were there: the pyramids, the sphinx. She talked of the world and all the places she would go. As the years passed she traveled to exotic destinations all over the world with maps and cameras in tow, to record Earth’s beauty and mysteries.

Many years later I visited her in Savannah, Georgia. She had a map and photo room, and dark hardwood book shelves floor to ceiling with maps and photo albums containing thousands, tens of thousands of photos. I kiddingly called her my National Geographic Photographer Aunt. She had photos on the walls of a guy in Borneo with a bone through his nose, wearing a G-string, holding a long spear, flat end on the ground, spear pointing to the sky, big smile. She spoke no foreign languages and with a wink and an index finger could get anyone, anywhere in the world to stand, to sit, to pose naturally. She would get close to people and a country, and if a story had been written about a place with her photos it would make a great article in the National Geographic, a fascinating twelve page read, of course there would be maps showing where everything was.

We sat at the big table in the middle of her room, spread the photo albums out and the maps that went with them. I could tell her work, her maps, her photos were her life’s work – I was a kindred spirit. I was five again and she was nineteen. I hung on every word, studied the photos and maps. Just like fifty years before at the beach. Her photo/map room was the fulfillment of a life of travel. – R.H.P

These are like natural maps of the world as seen from space. The stone necklaces are big, they are mostly oval and pear shape 2” long by 1-1 ½” wide they are big, showy and bold. They are blue water, bays, harbors; they show lakes, rivers and ponds, all in shades of blue. They are land, green peninsulas, they are fields and forests, fields in light green, the dark green are forests. Some of the pieces show islands in tranquil bays, every stone is a map of a place you have never been. Each piece is a promise of an expedition waiting to happen.

These are stone mysteries of the Earth. The guy I bought them from spoke Arabic I was only able to catch a few words. I don’t know what the stones are, I don’t have a gemological name for them, it’s a blue mystery and a green mystery. This is the earth 10, 20, 30, 40 miles, or perhaps a thousand miles up. This is the Earth and its land and water in exquisite detail, so beautiful you will want to go.

This is a talisman of travel, this is a wink and a promise of great places and mysteries to come. We have 28 pieces shown, surrounded in silver, each on its own 24” chain. If you were to buy the very last one it would be the best, this is not just salesman talk – it was the best. Toss a coin into the middle, whatever piece it touches is pure magic.

If you’ve had the travel bug and have had the weight of the pandemic sitting on you for the last year and every bone in your body is just screaming to go somewhere, you need one of these natural maps of the world as seen from space. It’s your promise of adventure, your promise of your next trip to come.
