She’s a redhead. She relishes her status. She celebrates the color. She even has her hairdresser tweak and adjust to maintain her God-given-color. Her identity is deeply tied to her hair. She believes her destiny, her life, was set by the color. I’ve known her for 22 years. I’ve known two other redheads. Redheads are special.
We have a ring, a classic three gem east – west ring. I see it belonging to a red haired woman. It would be fine on a blond, brunette or raven haired woman. In fact, it would be great on any of them. For a redhead, though, the ring is destiny. The gem is a sapphire. It’s orange, gold, amber, burnt umber. It’s the rising sun. It’s the setting sun. It’s October 15th at 8:35PM, the logs in the fireplace have burned down from licking orange flames to golden embers, glowing golden embers. Red-orange embers radiating heat, perfect time for hot mulled cider. Perfect moment to toast marshmallows.
The Padparadscha Mystery
An early explanation of the color Padparadscha suggested it was an orange-pink. A point of color found in the inside petals of certain lotus flowers. This gem leans more to the orange side of the flower’s color. The debate regarding the precise color point for Padparadscha has been going on for 3,000 years. This gem, this color, is perfect for a redhead. It has non-stop brilliance.
If you’ve studied the color of flower petals, color often starts light near the center and darkens as it radiates out toward tips of petals…and thus the source of this ancient eternal debate. The debate is lively and is certain never to be finally defined. I expect we have another 3,000 years of trying to decide which point on the outward radiating petal the precise color is to be chosen. Will it ever be settled? I hope not. Life needs mystery.
Is this gem a Padparadscha? Yes! No! Maybe! We’re not claiming, we are just saying that in its incredible brilliance and beauty, it’s a close family relation on the lotus petal. When you receive this ring breathe deeply.
The gem is liquid cinnamon, cushion-cut fashioned by a master gem cutter. I hold my breath every time I look, the color simply does this to me, I am spellbound. I’m waiting to see how the light will move, how it changes. I return to see the gem by dining room light, living room light and yes, one of my favorites is light by candle in the library. I return to see its brilliance by morning and moonlight. Last week we had a supermoon. The gem is always lying in wait, smoldering.
Our photograph will not do the gem justice in the same way that a single photograph can explain the life, spirit, and personality of any individual. Presume there is infinitely more to this gem than we can show or explain, and that you will have a lifetime to fully discover its magic and mystery.
Now to the jeweler’s more technical explanation: The ring is a classic east-west three gem design. The center is a 1.57 carat orange cushion-cut sapphire set medium high with a colorless Royal Ideal high-white diamond on the left and right side. The gems are precision-set in 18K white gold. Prong type setting, open, airy. The band that surrounds, is 18K yellow gold. Starting at size 6 1/2, we can make the ring smaller or larger.
Beacon Hill Ring Style
Beacon Hill is the quintessential three-stone diamond ring with classic lines and graceful airline upsweeps (see the profile view). The side diamonds rest at an angle to the center which gives a smooth transition from center to each side. The band also has an ever so slight taper from top to bottom.
Heirloom Quality. Made in America.
Beacon Hill has been made using the finest jewelry making techniques. The precious metal has gone through a die striking process, resulting in a superior finished piece than is typically found in jewelry made today.
The precious metal has been compressed and compacted under fifty tons of pressure to a denser form. The die striking process not only results in a more durable long lasting piece of jewelry, but also one that takes a brighter more lustrous polish.
