Under Penalty of Law Do Not Remove This Tag
In my childhood we had bed pillows and couch pillows with these big white tags. We never questioned. We obeyed the law and never removed the tags. Parents obeyed and their children followed suit. Somewhere in the middle of the night, as I tossed or turned, I remember feeling a tag on my cheek and moving the pillow around to find the soft fluffy part again.
It must have been a quarter century later that I finally thought about it, why the tag was there, and who the message was for. Its intent was to convey a message to the buyer to warn or caution about flammability or plastic bags or something. It was about safety of the customer. The “under penalty of law” part was directed to the retailer to prevent them from removing the tag so that the customer could read it and then remove it themselves.
So why all of this? It’s August 29, 2018, 82 degrees at lunch at The Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. I am writing while at lunch. As I shifted to the left to catch the shade I noticed at the back of the red seat cushions a flutter of white tags. The big one read in bold letters, “Notice. This article meets the flammability requirements of the California Bureau of Home Furnishings…)
All our rings at Cross Jewelers have tags with essential information. When you decide on a ring we remove the tag. All the information and more is transferred to a full appraisal document covering the center gem, in this case, Maine tourmaline, the diamonds, their cut, color and clarity, carat weight, the mounting karat and color.
After removal of the tag we do a complete safety check, a final polish and cleaning. Then we deliver it to you in our brick and mortar store, or shipping is free of charge anywhere USA. This ring was one of our most popular designs in the 1980s and 1990s. It’s still a great ring. We called it “Two 4s and Four 2s” reflecting the size of the side diamonds. This combination of diamonds is immensely pleasing to the eye. They create two crescent moons of diamonds, one waxing, one waning. The effect creates a powerful frame for any colored gem. This is a great ring. RHP
The Most Significant Find of Tourmaline
Anywhere in the World is Happening in Maine
One of Maine’s most famous tourmaline mines laid fallow for nearly 100 years, then a young guy came along with faith and vision, bought the property, and began exploring for gems again, and as they say, “The rest is history”.
We are pleased to report the old gem mine is now producing SparHawk Mint Green Teal Tourmaline – the world’s newest tourmaline find and at the moment the most important tourmaline discovery in the world.
SparHawk Mint Green Teal Tourmaline is a rare color of green, the result of a unique chemistry of the rock in this part of Maine. This chemistry has created the brightest, most brilliant gemmy green tourmaline we’ve ever had the privilege to offer.
Since this new discovery, we’ve created an amazing collection of SparHawk tourmaline jewelry. This is an exciting time in Maine history. We show many of our SparHawk pieces of jewelry online. To see our complete SparHawk tourmaline collection visit our store in Portland, Maine.
