Sunset at Star Pass

We stayed near Star Pass in Tuscon, Arizona. I saw more Saguaro cactus then I had ever seen in my entire life. One evening, we followed the highway up to the pass where two mountains converge. The highway swept between the mountains.

To the west was the evening sky, sun setting orange and gold. Above, a twilight sky, stars rising, stars twinkling in the deepening blue. Evening was beginning, headlights came on, headlights sweep the back roads and sweep up the sides of mountains. This was the wild west I dreamed of when I was a kid, of course back then I was on horseback not in a car.

A New Gem From Namibia
In South West Africa

Mandarin Orange: Small easy to peel sweet orange

Mandarin: A dialect of the Chinese language spoken by a billion people (Current population of Earth: 7.5 billion)

Mandarin: Region of China: most of northern China and south west China

Mandarin Garnet: Found in Namibia in south west Africa 25 years ago, a new discovery in 1995.

Mandarin Garnet is a Spessartite Garnet

I’m a jeweler, every dozen years or so a new gem discovery occurs somewhere on Earth. Generally, it’s not a big deal, sometimes the world is flooded for ten or twenty years with the new gem. Then it is gone. It becomes an historic footnote. We miss it when it’s gone. We lament its loss and we know that we were remiss, but by then it’s too late. In the midst of its rush and availability, we ignore and dismiss. This is one of those gems, a gem capturing golden light for just a moment…our setting sun.

90-Day Returns/Exchanges

Our extended ninety days, for a small business, is almost unheard of. Truth is, we shop for gifts too, and rather than scrambling at the last minute and feeling the tension of time, we like this more relaxed approach. We wish everyone did something like this… it would be a kinder, gentler world.
