Portland is a port city. We built clipper ships in Portland and in Maine. Maine provided the wood for the ships. We had craftsmen to build, captains to command, and crews of men to man the ships. Yes, some clippers docked at our waterfront. Boston, and New York were the centers of clipper ship activities.
