This morning I leapt out of bed and sauntered over to the picture window. The sun was rising, and the weatherman had predicted the day would be gray. The land was covered in a heavy gray cloud. Out to sea 25 – 50 miles, the sky was clear. The clouds created a canopy that the sun slipped under, bathing everything on the coast in an orange-yellow light. A little later, I drove a few miles inland. It was gray, overcast, and raining.
If I had stood behind the curtains and didn’t look, would I have known? Do any of us slow down enough to see what is actually right before us? Too often, we are racing to whatever is next. We all are going too fast, missing what’s truly important right before us.
