The Fiddlehead Ring
A Design Passed Through Generations

Along Maine streams and woodland paths, fiddleheads are among the first signs of spring. Each tiny fern begins as a tightly curled spiral, then slowly opens its fronds toward the sun.

More than a century ago, our founder, William M. Cross, captured that graceful shape in a ring for his daughter’s sixteenth birthday. He handcrafted the ring and set it with a green Maine tourmaline that he had cut and polished himself.

The ring remained in the Cross family and was passed down through the generations. When the time came for it to go to William’s great-great-granddaughter, there were two great-great-granddaughters and only one ring. So we made another. It came out so beautifully that the family design found new life.

A Fiddlehead Touched by Sunrise

This is one of a kind. We made it in 2021, then placed it in our archival vault, where it remained for five years. Until now, it has never appeared on our website.

When done in gold, we typically make our fiddlehead ring in yellow gold. This ring was created in white gold, and the contrast is striking. The cool white metal makes the warm, golden-yellow glow of its Atlantic Sunrise gem appear even more radiant, like a small sunrise held within the ring.

We made just one in white gold, and this is it. If you like it, love it, it was meant to be.
