I remember the first week we introduced the Lady Captain’s Ring. It was set with a round diamond in yellow gold. I’d never seen anything like it. Women all week looked, pointed, and said, “That one. Can I see that one?” In that first week it didn’t have a name. The name didn’t arrive until a month later when a woman pointed and said, “That one, with the captain’s bars.” From that day on it became the Lady Captain’s Ring.
This I Find Hard to Believe
For the first 10 years we only sold the Lady Captain’s Ring with a diamond in it. Then we woke up one day and realized this was the most popular ring design in the history of our store and it could hold rubies and sapphires, tourmaline and Atlantic Sunrise Citrine, amethyst, and blue topaz, sometimes we’re a little bit slow…me. Once we realized we could do gems other than diamonds, the sale of this ring took off.
