Essex
World’s Finest
Blue Sapphire and Diamond Ring
Essex is the finest three-stone classic prong-style ring in the world today. Essex is made by a small partner shop in New York City, that has some of the finest jewelers anywhere. We choose the gems, and our partner shop builds the ring and sets the gems. At Cross, we are really good at everything we do. We humbly acknowledge this shop is better than our best efforts at making an Essex. When they complete an Essex, we pass it along to our staff to look at because we are always in a state of awe every time they make an Essex ring for its balance, harmony, and microscopic perfection.
We save Essex rings for our finest gems. Gems with spot-on color. Gems of precision cutting. Gems that sing their song of beauty. I can hear the song of each new ring. I can hear the tune, the melody, and the words, and the song is lovely.
Essex
The gems we choose for Essex are the best of the best. In this ring, we have a round rich, velvety royal blue sapphire with precision cutting and great uniformity of brilliance. A top-performing blue sapphire.
We are particular when it comes to gems. Some might even call us fussy. We know we are particular when it comes to gem choice. We look at a thousand gems and choose one. Then test it under daylight, and artificial light. We test for movement and performance. We test it for purity of blue and consistency of color. We are watching for the gem’s ability to handle light, capture, reflect, refract, and return light with geometric precision. Precise proportions are what result in beauty. It goes beyond simple mathematics and enters into art and a gem cutter’s love of his craft. We can see it, you will see it too.
There is a good, better, best, then there is exceptional and extraordinary. We choose gems for Essex based on their rarity and performance and ultimately their beauty. We are looking for that moment in the symphony when the orchestra has quieted and is waiting while the violin is given center stage. Each note is singular, pure, exultant, each note is played to be heard with precision and clarity anticipating an audience that is truly listening. Our gems in an Essex are a masterful performance.
The Side Diamonds
These are natural Earth-mined diamonds, 200 million years old, formed in and by Mother Earth. The diamonds were cut to the exacting standards of Cross Royal Ideal for maximum sparkle, brilliance, and shine. Cross’ Royal Ideal adheres to earlier, tighter standards of ideal. Tight enough to allow all Cross Ideal diamonds to have a spot-on, perfect match for size, weight, brilliance, and performance.
Our Ideal is the
Standard of Excellence
Matching is not true for the contemporary, more liberal interpretations of Ideal cutting. Cross Ideal is a tight geometry of precision cutting, resulting in spot-on perfect matching and, thus, greater harmony and symmetry of visual perfection.
Diamond
The hardest substance in the universe is pure carbon atomic #6. Element 6 is carbon, responsible for almost all of life on Earth. We, humans, are carbon-based creatures. Ironically, carbon in gem form is clear, white, and transparent, and when cut and polished creates a diamond, symbol of love, symbol of forever. Diamond’s pure white neutrality makes it the perfect gem to set next to colored gems. Colored gems play beautifully next to diamonds.
This is a
One-of-a-Kind Beauty
If you’ve ever had a prong-set ring that was too delicate, you’ll understand the importance of crafting for a long life. This was made by a master craftsman. From the top, you see just gems. From the side, you can see it is structurally solid. It is solid, and sound for a lifetime of wear, for your life and ready for the next generation.
