Ginkgo Leaf Necklace

Ginkgo trees glow yellow for ten days to two weeks in the fall on Lisbon Street in Lewiston, Maine. Outside the Fishbone Restaurant it is one of the most beautiful line ups of ginkgo trees I’ve ever seen. The trees are 20 feet tall and on one cool evening on November 8^th we went to dinner. There was a breeze sweeping down from Canada, it was cold, the leaves were shimmering, the white globe streetlights showed the leaves against the black velvet night sky. I whipped my phone out, took three pictures, then five. Nancy said, “It’s cold, can we go in?” If I had to do it again, I would have spent an hour, the trees were that beautiful. The ginkgo leaf is beautiful, the leaf is very feminine – it’s a graceful ballet dancer.

The ginkgo is an ancient tree. The ginkgo’s ancestor’s history stretches back so far, they created shade for dinosaurs 200 million years ago. That’s an ancient legacy. If dinosaurs saw color, they would have seen when fall had arrived because the leaves on the trees turn a beautiful canary yellow color after a summer of green.

After looking for the ideal ginkgo leaf collection for 40 years, and finding good, but never perfect, we found a shop lead by a woman, who designs for women. She understands put on, take off, and all the details in between.
