Summer Joyride, Fancy Sapphire Bracelet

This summer we were riding home from Acadia National Park. It was warm and sunny. A Maine afternoon you dream about over long winters.

We took Route 1, the longer way home, but always the more interesting way. The road threads through the small coastal towns that make that stretch of Maine so special, places where an unplanned stop and a walk down a quiet side street can unexpectedly become the best part of the day.

For a good portion of the drive, a small red convertible traveled in front of us.

Forgive me, I’m not a car guy, but it looked like an older-style convertible, something an enthusiast would own. Low to the road, and painted a bright red that glowed in the sun.

A man was driving. A woman with long, curly brown hair sat beside him, the wind lifting it and tossing it around her shoulders.

Even from behind you could tell they were having a blast. The hand gestures and the quick glances toward one another gave it all away.

They had all the time in the world.

I remember sensing their happiness in a way that felt contagious.

As we followed them along the coast, it felt less like we were driving home and more like we had somehow slipped into the middle of someone else’s perfect afternoon.

Just two people, a warm day, and an open road.

When I first looked at this bracelet, I immediately thought of that couple in the convertible. The bracelet is compact, lively, and full of personality. The bracelet measures 6¾ inches, sitting close to the wrist like a small roadster hugging the road.
