Blue Zircon & Diamond Necklace

Mid-march. With binoculars this morning I watched a woodpecker outside the kitchen window, going at it on an oak tree. Later, I saw a blue jay hopping on a bare patch of frozen ground.

The temperatures are in the mid-20’s and there’s still a foot and a half of snow on the yard in most places. I wondered what they find to eat so early in the season and especially on this day of fierce wind- where would they go to sleep tonight? Where in all the bare-branched trees in the forest would there be a warm place to snuggle down and curl up? What must a late winter night be like with 10 hours of darkness? What spark of determination and faith in the coming of dawn keeps the fire burning inside?

This little dove could be most any bird. I saw a dove. Its feathers curled around a blue Zircon. It has a diamond for an eye. I see the brilliance of light on a winter day. I see the little bird holding on to that brilliance, knowing that Spring will come and Summer with blue skies will follow.
