Why We Love This Piece

The ocean is a place of mystery. Things happen on the sea that even locals can be puzzled by. For instance, we have a cove in our town with a prominent rock in the middle at low tide. One side has a gentle slope. One side is steep. On the charts, it’s called Seal Rock. The rock is a half-mile out from shore. Some claim they are not seals but mermaids sunning on the sloping rock. Several years ago, a whale was spotted in the cove. Its arrival made the newspaper. Mermaids on mermaid rock…it’s only a matter of time.
