In 2019 the Trailing Yew was updated for the 20th century. Electricity in all rooms. The dining hall and common areas were still lit by candlelight 15 years ago.
Cousin From
Disney World
My cousin lives in Florida, not far from Disney World. She visits Maine most years. She was recalling this week, one visit. The night we had a bonfire at the Phoenix Terrace. She recalled the sound of crickets, the sound of channel buoys, the sound of waves on the cliffs, the sound of the crackling fire, the neighbors who came over, and the marshmallows we toasted. She mentioned the stars in the night sky. She said the lights of Disney make the stars disappear. The stars were just so amazing that night she said.
When you always have something like stars in your night sky, it’s easy to take it for granted. If you’re from a big city, or near Disney World, it becomes special when you see them across the night sky.
Why We Love This Piece
The surface of this bracelet has a very fine ripple wave finish, like you were in a plane looking out the window 7,000 feet above the sea looking down at the surface of waves.
The edges of the top of the bracelet are wave-cut and slightly raised. Across the antiqued silver night sky are a sprinkling of natural white diamonds.
The bracelet interior is engraved:
925 – for Sterling Silver
We have only one. The possibility exists we could make others. We’re not sure; another would be different diamond counts and different placement of diamonds. Length of time to make others is unknown – 10-12 weeks?
Each Bracelet is Different
Stephen and I go off to the national jewelry show once a year. We have an agenda: must haves, things we can’t live without.
Gems are often a repeatable staple. We also meet new individual designers; makers of jewelry often working on the cutting edge of jewelry design and innovation, and sometimes we discover something the world has never seen. Or it may be a simple classic with a new twist, subtleties, and variations that catch the eye and fire the imagination.
Some of these pieces are truly one of a kind, coming from an independent spirit creator so fierce they never intend to make the same one twice like our Milky Way Bracelet; the number, the count, the position and arrangement of the diamonds differs each time.
As I look at this piece, I think about the man who made it. He is a violinist, and for him, each diamond is a star in the night sky, each diamond is a note in the composition he is playing.
If you are a stargazer, if your imagination gets fired up with the thought that after the sun goes down the window to the universe is again opened and we can see it all, seriously consider this. It is truly a magical piece.
