One night on a Maine island I stood barefoot in the grass outside our cottage on the lawn, looking up. It was summer, 10 miles offshore and 10 degrees cooler than on the mainland. I could hear waves on the shore. The island was asleep, I was alone. I looked up and saw something I’d never seen before…the celestial reach and a night sky filled with stars stretching from horizon to horizon and arching above me. Most of what I saw were just the stars in our galaxy. Some of the specks of light were other galaxies a million, billion, trillion miles away. I stood in awe because I’d never seen the window of the night sky opened so wide and so Windex-clean.
Our necklace represents an open window to the night sky. We call it My Center of the Universe. In the center we return to Earth and place one of our world’s gems within the bands of gold or silver echoing out. We set a number of different gems in the middle – round, oval, square – in various sizes. The collection varies over time. We use the following gems:

She’s been with you for what feels like forever, and it’s still getting better with the passing years. That first time you saw her, you caught her out of the corner of your eye…the thought, just the possibility, stayed with you. And when you saw her again a few days later, you spoke; it was the most important conversation of your life. Because she is now the center of your universe.
My Center of the Universe is a precious center gem with concentric circles of gold or silver echoing out. It’s also a compass, a homing device which points north and south, east and west – giving and providing direction. My Center of the Universe is sweet, neat, not too large, not too small, it’s just right…perfect.
