Following the Sun, Sunset Citrine, Safe Travels Necklace

Style #: X4266

More daughters than sons move away from home after schooling. As parents, we want both daughters and sons to explore and always to return. This necklace, Following the Sun, encourages both travel and return.

Striking off in a new direction, following the sun, this is an early woven compass rose design. Our ancestors departed their European shores and ventured out across the Atlantic to America. Heading west is often our destiny, too.

This compass is woven ribbons of silver north, south, east, and west, through which a silver circle flows, set with a glowing amber-yellow 6mm citrine. The sunset citrine’s pure honey color will always be with her to warm her heart and remind her of her family’s hearth and home.

Ideal for your graduating daughter to guide her safely to new destinations, new lands, and new possibilities. Worn on an 18-inch silver chain places this promise of a great new future two inches from her heart.

Those Who Venture Forth
Following the Sun
Are the Brave Adventurers
Of Our Species

There was the vast ocean our European ancestors looked out upon and the golden sunset in the west of that blue sea. Who could resist the temptation to see what might lie beyond? What new lands, new people, new civilizations, and new opportunities were out there just over the horizon. Thousands thought it. The Vikings were the first to sail out to take a look. Then, a gutsy guy called Columbus, 500 years later, did it again and discovered a new world.

If you have a young lady about to set out on an adventure to discover what the world has to offer, she is indeed following the sun. The gem is a golden citrine, the design is a woven compass. When you give this piece, you are bestowing your blessing on her journey and wishing her great and grand adventures in her exploration of life. You are also with this necklace inviting her to find her way home from time to time.

Why We Love This Piece

Take a closer look. The circle is a full circle. The designer carefully wove the compass points over and under the circle. The size is generous; the four points stick out beyond the edge of an American quarter. The golden sun gem is a checkerboard pattern that makes it glow. This is your encouragement for your daughter to explore and your invitation for her to return home often.

Drop a Hint

Humankind is curious. We want to know what is out beyond. We build craft to explore. We even decorate these craft with artwork. Anything useful could simply be left an unadorned form. If it’s important, we add artistic details. Our Following the Sun necklace is a directional compass of sorts. It’s a Celtic-like pattern woven through and has a gem of the setting sun in the center.

The Vikings were humanity’s most gutsy, bold, and brave explorers. We honor and remember them for their spirit of exploration. The Vikings were big on detailing and decorations. This is the hull of the Oseberg ship, a Viking ship buried 1,100 years ago. The Vikings took inspiration from the Celtic weave patterns. For those of us who have northern European ancestry, our people a thousand years ago were sculpting and carving grand detail into everything.

Our extended ninety days, for a small business, is almost unheard of. Truth is, we shop for gifts too, and rather than scrambling at the last minute and feeling the tension of time, we like this more relaxed approach. We wish everyone did something like this… it would be a kinder, gentler world.
