The Amusement Park
The Wild Colors of a
Rainbow Bracelet
When I was a kid, the peak summer experience was a seaside amusement park by the ocean. It was 10 miles south of our summer cottage. There was a pier, a merry-go-round, Noah’s Ark, pink cotton candy, and bumper cars. To do the bumper cars, you had to be a certain age and a certain height. I remember standing outside the gate with my chin on the railing, wishing for another year or two, and another four inches of height. I remember the fence surrounding the bumper car arena; every slat was painted a different color of the rainbow. The bumper cars were painted bright primary colors. The floor was dark and shiny. The perimeter had dark rubber bumpers, and every colored car had rounded edges and dark rubber bumpers.
As a five-year-old, here is what I loved the most: the smell and sparks. There was electricity in the air. The bumper cars had poles up the back that went up to the ceiling, and had a metal fan that touched the wire mesh at the ceiling. As the cars moved along the floor, sparks of electricity would follow across the ceiling with the smell of rubber and electricity. It was the highest energy, wildest place in the amusement park. I would have traded everything there, the Ferris wheel, the skeet shoot, the pier, even the pizza slices and French fries, for the bumper cars because they were pure magic. The colors of the fences and cars were otherworldly magic, and the sparks and smells captured the heart of this five-year-old.
The bracelet is called Rainbow Lullaby Ladder. Phooey! It’s pure bumper car delight! Imagine this: 58 gem bumper cars, all gem colors, all running with sparks flying. The gems are colored sapphires: blue, red, orange, yellow, green, then back to blue again, then purple. The bracelet is smooth to the touch. It feels amazingly smooth and gentle on the wrist. It has a solid box clasp and a super safe under-swing safety lock. It has over 7 carats of gems, all precision-cut sapphires. Bright, brilliant, almost electric colored gems. It’s a fun, wild ride of a bracelet.
Why We Love This Bracelet
Although I’m solidly in my 7th decade, age six is still vivid. I grew up on a farm outside of Portland and remember summers with fields of butterflies and flowers, green grass, and red apples. This bracelet contains all the colors of the world in bright sparkling gems.
A couple of months ago, we sent an email about a similar bracelet with fewer, but larger gems. The bracelet was more expensive. Our partner, who makes this bracelet, recently sent us a letter hinting that he’s retiring. He, too, is in his 7th decade, which means this bracelet and the last bracelet we sent information on are likely the last of their kind in the world.
He’s been making these bracelets for 30 years. He’s arrived at mastery both for this solid bracelet design and his gem and color selection. If you’re tempted, call, because you know what happens if someone else calls first. Yes, gold is in the $4000 range. This bracelet was made and priced at $1,800 per ounce; it’s a great a great value.
