When I was a kid I was good at telling and making up stories, or one might say, notorious for telling tales. I remember the day as a five year old some tourist types were visiting my Grandmother’s cottage by the sea. I was in good form, holding forth with answers to all the mysteries of the sea.

I covered several important topics that day. I remember clearly explaining the origin of the starfish, as stars dropping out of the night sky into the ocean, then washing into tide pools and getting swept to shore on incoming tides for kids to pick up when they came to the beach.

I remember clearly how interested the group seemed to be. In retrospect, I realize now they were amused and just humoring a cute little kid filled with tales of the sea.

Diamond Necklace

Now my story 65 years later, this is our best diamond starfish. We’ve had several over the years, this one is pavé-set with diamonds. Every surface of this white gold star is covered with diamonds. Each diamond looks like a star in the sky (and no this didn’t just drop out of the night sky). I’m not telling that tale. It was however handmade, hand-set and it’s exquisite. The five year old would be proud of our accomplishment and impressed with the quality.
