Our house is 50 feet above sea level, 300 feet back. In the summer, we have breakfast on the oak terrace. For three years, she walked her two white dogs precisely at 8:45 every morning down on the road looping the freshwater marsh.
Nancy would say, “The goddess is on the road.” I’d put my paper down. She was not dressed like anyone I’ve ever known or seen in our neighborhood. She was not dressed for dog walking. She was a runway model at 100 yards. She was tall and young. She wore long flowing skirts in light colors, and she held a good pace with her matching dogs. Her posture was impeccable. I would have sworn she had just stepped off Mount Olympus. If it were just she who walked through the park, we would have noticed; add the two graceful hounds on leashes of equal length, and it was the opening of a French foreign film.
Nancy was as interested in her as I was. After three years, we no longer saw her. I’m surprised neither of us thought to go down on the road and pass her in the opposite direction and just say good morning. We knew the time, 8:45. We never met her; we could have. Some things we put off, and then it’s too late.
Recently, I said to Nancy, “I have a question about 8:45. Remember how our nickname for her was ‘the goddess’?” Nancy said yes.
“We have a ring called The Goddess. What would you think about a story of a goddess walking in the park?”
Nancy said, “Sounds perfect.”

The Goddess Ring
Center colored gem is the full moon
Right-facing crescent moon in diamonds
Left-facing crescent moon in diamonds
The center of this Goddess ring is an oval of Maine tourmaline. We sometimes call it the Triple Goddess because each crescent has three diamonds. This is a smooth, easy, elegant right-hand ring.
The Goddess Design
This ring has a bright, lively, oval pink Maine tourmaline gem in the center. It’s actually an awesome example of Maine tourmaline from our western mountains. I wish we had a dozen of them.
We developed this Goddess design about 40 years ago. It’s quite elegant. The secret to this design is the six diamonds. There are two .04-carat diamonds and four .02-carat diamonds. The diamonds are small but add a touch of snowy white brilliance in the form of right and left crescent moons on either side of the center. Many are unaware that in our night sky, a left and right crescent moon forms a week and a half before and a week and a half after a full moon.
Several years ago, we had a new jeweler make this ring for us. When he made it, the three diamonds on each side were close to a straight line. It didn’t look right. We had him make the ring over. The center diamonds need to be a hairbreadth out from the center to create the proper visual arc and really look like a crescent.
This design is the essence of simplicity. As you look down on the Goddess Ring, the gems are clustered in the center. The 2mm gold shank wraps around the finger and is just slightly visible on the left and right.
This ring looks good in this email and looks good on our website. In person, it’s awesome! The beauty of the pink is superlative, with the crescent moons in diamonds echoing closely. I am envious of the family that will adopt this ring. It’s definitely a keeper.
