The Schooner Diamond Engagement Ring, Platinum

A dozen times a summer I’m out working on the land, I look up and there is a schooner 500 feet off shore. Not three or four miles out, but right there sailing by. It’s a gift of grace, beauty and harmony that this goddess of the sea with its white sails as free as the wind is sailing by. Who knows the destination of all onboard? Who knows what hopes, wishes, dreams and desires will be fulfilled on this voyage. Who knows what adventures await?

Awesome. Dazzling. It took us a while to acquire the 3 matched oval center diamonds…worth the wait. This is an impressive ring. Low-profile diamonds traverse the entire top of the hand with brilliant white glittering, shimmering, sparkling, glinting, scintillating diamond light. It’s amazing.

The Oval Diamond Secret

Oval diamonds look big. A secret about oval diamonds is that for the same weight they look larger than an equal weight round diamond. Out of curiosity I took this ring around the store and asked colleagues to guess the weight of the center diamond. Guesses ranged from just shy of a carat to 1.5 carats. The actual size of the center – .72 carat! Everyone was surprised. The diamonds in this ring look big.

If the center was indeed 1.5 carats and the other diamonds were appropriately larger this ring would be over $26,000 – this ring is less than half that price.

An Amazing Look

There’s a lot of diamond brilliance streaming across the finger. Large center oval, two impeccably matched side ovals, and then on each shoulder are graduating round diamonds. There’s a graceful sweep as the ring tapers from the center down the sides. One of the best looking “Athleisure” rings we’ve ever made.

Comfortable

The oval diamonds are well protected in semi-bezels. The diamonds are set low, close to the finger, comfortable. This ring is smooth, no prongs to catch, what we call glove friendly. A Labor of Love

There is nothing like this ring anywhere in the world. It’s challenging to make because nearly all ovals are cut a little wider than what’s required for this setting. Our diamond sources say what we are looking for almost doesn’t exist. We’re patient; it can take weeks or months to find the right suite of ovals. If the ovals were wider I think there would be a subtle loss of elegance.

Once this ring sells, I can’t give you a date when the next one will be available, due to the sourcing challenge, but it will be months. Each Diamond Schooner Ring we make is priced individually.
