In 1942, the world was at war, and a new generation of women was stepping forward.

As husbands, brothers and sweethearts left to fight in Europe and the Pacific, millions of American women entered offices, factories and shipyards. They built aircraft, assembled ships, managed businesses and supported both their families and the war effort.

Their lives were changing, and the jewelry they wore had to change with them.

These women still wanted engagement rings that were beautiful and feminine, but their rings also needed to be practical, comfortable and durable enough to withstand long days of demanding work. Jewelers responded with designs that held diamonds low and securely, protecting them without sacrificing their romance.

Decades later, Cross Jewelers returned to that distinctive wartime style.

We recreated the ring as an homage to the women of the World War II era and named it the Victory Ring, graceful engraving and delicate details gave the ring the romantic character of the original period.

The name honored more than victory at the end of a war. It celebrated the women who stepped into unfamiliar roles, discovered new independence and proved themselves capable of work that had long been considered the province of men.

When Cross recreated the Victory Ring, its meaning felt just as relevant. Women were and still are on the move. They work in offices, factories, shipyards and countless other places once transformed by the women of the wartime generation. They continue to value jewelry that is beautiful without being fragile, feminine without being fussy and comfortable enough to become part of everyday life.

The Victory Ring was created for that connection between generations.

For the women of the 1940s, a ring in this style might have represented a promise exchanged before a soldier left home, letters carried across an ocean and the hope of being reunited. For a later generation, it became a tribute to those love stories and to the courageous women who kept life moving while the world was at war.

Cross Jewelers no longer offers this design. This Victory Ring is a hybrid, meaning it has a victory shank (the ring part) however, the diamond is set in a modern six prong setting. It’s an archival piece, with a modern twist. A tribute to an extraordinary period in American history.
