The Original Iron Cross

Shown below is the original iron cross we bought at auction. The metal was oxidized dark by time.
Our jeweler built a loop at the top to allow us to drop it from a chain. He did a great job.

This is a 1000 year old Christian Cross found in Viking era Europe. Originally made at a time when the Vikings were leaving the old ways and embracing Christianity. The original is iron, probably hand hewn by a blacksmith with hammer and anvil…heated coals and sparks flying. It was made for someone in his village, a symbol of hope and light in a world of darkness.

The iron cross is part of our store’s collection of ancient artifacts. As I hold it, I imagine the man or woman who owned it attending Sunday Services and a lifetime of Easter Sundays and how important this cross was to them.

The silver and gold Christian crosses we are offering were made from the original. The cross is a magnificent relic. It is rustic, real and rich.
