I spent the afternoon repairing a saltwater dock at our family cottage. My hand in these photos has not been manicured. I’m photographing on the evening of August first. It’s after seven. The sun has set behind the big hill in the west. I’ve gone down to my summer stream where ten-foot cattails are growing along with a dozen varieties of ferns. One might not imagine that the light at this time of day is good enough to show detail on any piece of jewelry. Remarkably, tonight’s light is the best.
As a matter of store philosophy, we choose sapphires two shades lighter. Most jewelers say the darker the better; we say the bluer the better. We search, hunt, and find the sky-blue color shades of sapphire for our east-west Fiddlehead rings.
We’ve had a lot of rain in July 2021. The stream is running strong. You can hear it in the background of our video shown above. The gems are superbly cut, giving them an extra zing of brilliance. You can see that too in our video.
Take a closer look at the engraving, it’s duplicated from a Cross original. It was hand engraved by our founder, William Cross, in 1919 for his daughter’s 16th birthday. We are the originator and maker of the Cross Fiddlehead ring.
