A Maine Sea Captain’s Journals
From the Clipper Ship Era
Early in our conversations with Keith, the jewelry designer of our Trade Wind Jewelry Collection, he mentioned his great-great-grandfather’ journals; not ship logs, but personal journals of two trips as captain of the clipper ship Franklin to South East Asia in the 1860’s and 1870’s.
What’s remarkable is that this Maine sea captain and his great-great-grandson Keith followed similar paths to South East Asia every two years. The captain bringing ice over and sugar and rice back; while Keith is bringing cash over and gems home.
We’ve posted the captain’s journals as well as Keith’s gem buying expeditions in two different blogs.
