Once upon a time in the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s the world was awash in exquisite moonstone. Clear, billowy, blueish white light. We and most jewelers had them, lots of them. They were beautiful and available. But like many things that seem to be easy to get, no one really appreciated what seemed so easy to get. Skip ahead to the late 90’s. A new reality of availability begins to settle in. Moonstone sources in India all said the same thing, fine moonstone was vanishing. Gems that were once available were no longer available. And what had been a common gem was becoming more precious with a price to match. We offer this necklace with an exceptional gem. A magical gem, a beautiful gem, a rare gem. Moonstone is mysterious. Many are surprised to hear that we find moonstone on a beach here in Miane. We even made a piece of jewelry from it surrounded by diamonds. I told my staff many years ago where it was. Apparently, no one was listening because years later when we made that piece of jewelry from it, everyone wanted to know so they could go. I doubled down and would not tell because if everyone knew, it would ruin the beach experience forever. Yes, this is a choice gem found years ago in India. And no, moonstone from Maine is not an option. It’s just a note of curiosity.
