When you go out on the ocean it feels vast. Even when you’re just a few miles offshore and exploring a dozen or two dozen miles up or down the coast from Portland it seems vast. Islands, rocks, buoys, other boats…it all seems so mysterious. I think about what captains of the great sailing ships of the 1800s faced after they rounded the southern tip of South America. I think about their roundtrip back to the east coast of America being 8, 9, 10 months for a single trip.
I think about their trip to China: the vastness of the Pacific Ocean, thousands of miles of blue water, storms, wind, waves, water, the food on board, and how a ship and its crew had to be self-sustaining. The crew had to trust the captain’s skills, his competency, his ability to keep the ship pointed in the right direction. A degree or two off, and his ship could arrive in Japan, not China.
Pacific Reach
Blue Sapphire Ring
Pacific Reach is a serious ring. This one in particular has a big, cushion-cut blue sapphire, weighing 2.62 carats. It’s a bright, brilliant blue color that will hold its own anywhere you go from sun up to sun down and all the way to midnight. This is a blue sapphire that is always shining. It’s always on.
If you’ve been thinking about a serious sapphire ring, this may very well be what you’ve been seeking. If you’re inclined, we understand because Pacific Reach is one of our all-time favorite ring designs. I’ve picked this ring up a dozen times, I set it down only to pick it up again because the blue is so open and so beautiful.
If you are too dainty or delicate, if your hands are small, this ring may be too big. It’s a serious ring with a serious blue sapphire. It’s a cushion-cut sapphire at 2.62 carats…it looks big. It also has four graduated natural, earth-mined diamonds trailing down the east and west sides. It’s starting finger size is 7 1/2, and can be size down to 6 or up to 9.
Why We Love This Ring
Pacific Reach does things few rings do. First, the center gem traverses the finger. It’s a big, bold, blue cushion-cut sapphire set east to west. Second, It has a splash of high white diamonds echoing out. The eye responds favorably to all these gems crossing the finger, Third, the rings sits low and the gems are recess set for super safety. It’s a really comfortable ring.
Why a Cross Sapphire is the Best
We love blue. We know blue. We live by the blue sea, beneath summer blue skies. Our business is located on a peninsula called Portland, surrounded by saltwater on three sides. We can feel the blue ocean pulsing with every tide. From the rooftop of our building, we can see the open sea. Binoculars show ships coming and going on a blue, blue sea.
We love blue sapphire: It is bright, brilliant and is amazingly durable. As the second hardest gem to diamond, it is a highly wearable gem, ideal for rings. We love blue sapphire… we love it so much that we have traveled to southeast Asia to find first-choice colors. We choose a lighter, brighter blue than most American jewelers because it shows up best under a wide range of real-world lighting conditions. Our blue sapphires look and perform best on everything from sunny days to a candlelit dinner for two.
We want your blue sapphire to dazzle you, dazzle your partner and everyone in any room you visit. Cross’ blue sapphires are the best.
