For the 22 minutes of dawn, the sun, orange-yellow-gold, breaks the horizon in the east. Light sweeps across hundreds of miles of ocean to strike our shores. The amber light begins to return color to the land as the sun rises. The sun melts the shadows, warms the air, chases fog away, and makes dew drops on spider webs sparkle, then vanish. There is darkness for six, eight, ten hours while we sleep, trusting we are safe, knowing that a new day will come.
Wet sand, bare feet, the light on the water. Our beach has smooth sections and sand ripples. This ring has both. Yes, this is our Atlantic Sunrise Returning Tide Ring. Morning at the edge the orange glow of early light, and the stillness of sunrise are all here to help you welcome a new day.
First One Out in the Morning
The Earth turns. The moon in the morning sky rides high, invisible to the eye. The tide at the shore sweeps in. As a kid, my red-headed grandmother taught me that the first one out in the morning had the first choice for any treasure the night tide might wash in. Her oceanside living room was filled with hundreds of pieces of driftwood and shells because she was the first to find them.
I suspect she had other motivations than being the first one out on the beach…the early morning golden waves that wash ashore are pure magic.
Returning Tide
Citrine Ring
Yes, here is the sun, the warm golden gem of the sky, welcoming you to a new day filled with light, warmth, and a grand greeting. A simple ring in yellow gold, as simple as simple can be.
Returning Tide Style
Our family has a summer cottage at Higgins Beach in Scarborough, Maine. Four generations of our family have returned to the beach for nearly 100 years. Each year in June, I prep the land and cottage for summer. I work hard. I work steadily until the tide enters the tidal creek where our cottage is located, and then I sit and watch. It doesn’t matter what time of day the tide comes in; its arrival is a matter of importance I never tire of.
There is something so compelling about the rising tide…the certainty, the predictability, and the strength. The moon is pushing and pulling the water to shore, and although I can’t see the invisible force, its power is obvious. I love to watch this surge of water that returns to flood the land twice a day. Water as it flows in, particularly around the edges of docks, creates flow lines. I see the flow lines in this ring, which we call the Returning Tide.
Why We Love This Ring
The gem is big, 8 x 6mm oval. It glows bright on your hand. The cut style is checkerboard – little golden triangles slice and dice the light into little sparkles of gold. It glitters all day long to remind you of your new day.
