Something moves out at the corner of your eye. You turn slightly, not to frighten or scare, and there poised in mid-air a bit bigger than a bug is a bird in color, poise, perfect, present, surreal, a ghost of presence. You hold your breath. You look, you blink and it’s gone.

Our hummingbird is ruby, diamond, green garnet, and blue and white sapphire set in white gold. In America today, there are 7 small and 3 large.
