Rare Pink Maine Tourmaline
In A Savoy Ring
Savoy, where did the name for our ring come from… It’s from London, England. If you want to visit the king, he might put you up at the castle. If you’re a potentate or president you’re more likely to end up at The Savoy. The Savoy name has a cachet that means a lot. It’s like saying Hollywood, Palm Beach, or Malibu. Savoy has elegant rooms, fine restaurants, even your limo parked during your stay at The Savoy has an elegant spot.
What’s special about The Savoy:
The Savoy was the first purpose-built deluxe hotel in London, setting new standards for luxury, comfort, and service unheard of in the hotel world of the day. The Savoy was built by the impresario Richard D’Oyly Carte with profits from his Gilbert and Sullivan opera productions, the Savoy opened on the 6th of August 1889.
Some of the famous guests at The Savoy have included Edward VII, Oscar Wilde, Enrico Caruso, Charlie Chaplin, Babe Ruth, Harry Truman, Joan Crawford, Judy Garland, John Wayne, Laurence Oliver, Marylin Monroe, Humphrey Bogart, Elizabeth Taylor, Barbra Streisand, Bob Dylan, Bette Midler, The Beatles, and Taylor Swift stays there too.
Our Savoy ring was originally designed by two brothers in New York City who had traditional jewelry-making skills. They began using advanced jewelry design techniques which they combined with jewelry styles from the Art Deco period 1920-1940 and thus created the Savoy design. For all that we at Cross have seen in jewelry design of the last 200 years, Savoy is one of the prettiest rings ever made.
The ring contains a large round pink Maine tourmaline weighing 4.70 carats. The gem crystal was found in North America’s largest gem discovery in 1972 in Maine’s western mountains. The gem is an ultimate pink, cut to reveal maximum brilliance. Now this is a full half century after the big find. A ring like this shouldn’t exist, but the jeweler, ‘Cross’ who acquired pink Maine tourmaline a ½ century ago is just now releasing this rare gem… This is your opportunity.
100% Natural
We’ve been to the mines. We know the miners. We know the gem cutters. We guarantee our tourmaline to be from Maine and 100% natural. Cross maintains the largest collection of fine Maine tourmaline jewelry in the world.
Window of Opportunity
Nearly fifty years has passed since the major 1972 tourmaline find in Newry, Maine where they found 3.5 million carats of tourmaline crystals. Over the years we bought more than we sold knowing that gem finds don’t last forever. There are now colors, sizes, and shapes that are extremely rare and in some cases no longer available. If you see something you love it’s best to act quickly. There’s no guarantee another like it exists.
Case in point: In 2007 there was a find of tourmaline in Newry, Maine called Eureka Blue. People loved the color. The gems sold quick, but the find was small and the mining only lasted a few seasons. By 2013 all the large Eureka gems had sold. We still get calls from people who are now ready to buy. What they want, however, simply does not exist.
Gem finds are rare, especially in North America. Maine tourmaline is a piece of Maine and American history, it’s a connection to place, an exquisite creation of nature. Today, there is a rare opportunity to own a bit of Maine/American pride and heritage, in choosing a piece of Maine tourmaline jewelry.
