This is a dazzling, rare piece. The SparHawk gem is a dazzlingly big round mint-green Maine tourmaline. It was cut by America’s best gem cutter, Sean Sweeney, now deceased, which means this piece enters into historic collectible territory. This gem is now part of a Maine legend. The cut doesn’t even have a name…it’s a Sweeney…a pure, free, spirited creation.
The green colors swirl. Big diamonds north, south, east, west. A total of sixteen diamonds tucked in-between. Handmade mounting in 14K yellow gold shows the gems exquisitely on an 18-inch 14K yellow gold chain which allows this to land two inches from her heart.

America’s Best
Sean was America’s best colored gem cutter. He had a genius level of attention to detail and was able to sit with a gem crystal for days, studying its color and clarity for the best orientation and best potential outcome. The result? Dazzling beauty…gems that cause a jeweler to believe in eternity.
Sean passed away in 2022. I sat with Sean for an entire day once as he cut a SparHawk gem. We started at the crack of dawn and went until far after the sun went down with me watching him focused on just one gem. Over the years, we have acquired a treasure trove of the gems Sean had cut. Certain gems, like this big round Maine tourmaline, are one-of-a-kind gems. We have assembled a museum-quality collection of his best work. We will miss Sean greatly.

I’ve always dreamed of a gem find like this. To have this mine be so close to home, just 28 miles north of our store in the mountains of western Maine, is amazing.
