“A Pink
Prayer for World Peace”
World Tourmaline Necklace
Today we are looking at a pink World tourmaline It was found in Brazil. Any place on Earth would be proud to claim origin of this gem. The color is right up there with the finest pinks from Maine’s western mountains. If you lay claim to this beauty, it will lay close to your heart perfectly nestled on an 18-inch gold chain.
We call it a prayer because two hands in prayer create a pear shape. This is a plump prayer and a gem color so perfect, had it come out of the ground here in Maine anyone would have charged more than twice as much. It’s pretty, poised, perfect and what the world really needs right now is World peace. “A Pink Prayer for World Peace” is the name we’ve given this necklace.

We’ve surrounded the pink pear with 42 brilliant diamonds adding four graduated diamonds into the articulated loop. The piece is 18K yellow gold with an 18-inch 14K yellow gold chain.
When you meet the Pope, you can tell him your necklace is called “A Prayer for World Peace”. I’m sure he will be pleased.

One of a Kind Beauty
If two or three of you want this, can we make another, can we make more? No! An emphatic no! The gem is big, the gem is rare, and its color is absolutely impossible to find in the world today. This is a one-of-a-kind gem, and yes, this is a really beautiful piece of jewelry.
*Important Disclosure: We mine Maine tourmaline in Maine, just 28 miles north of our store. 92% of all tourmaline we show and sell is found in Maine’s western mountains. Every once in a while, we see a tourmaline found somewhere else in the world that is so fine, so beautiful we can’t resist. This is one of those rare, choice World gems. This glowing pink gem with its lace of pure white diamonds surrounding and the magic of its 18K yellow gold halo frame is a picture-perfect piece.
Still Boasting
In 1972, Maine was on top of the World for the biggest, best, finest find of gem tourmaline on Planet Earth. An astounding 2 metric tons of gems, 3 ½ million carats of tourmaline were unearthed. As Mainers, we’re still boasting about that gem discovery in 1972. The first time I looked at gems cut from the ’72 find there were thousands of gems in the most desirable colors. I saw the Maine gem legend at its height. Maine had sizes and colors the world had never seen. Because this find was legendary, it was the stuff fairy tales are written about, we veterans of this era are still boasting.
A Half-Century of Gems
It’s now 50 years after the big find in Maine. We bought a lot of Maine’s finest gems over the years. We still get eight or ten pink Maine tourmaline each year from the 1972 find: one or two carats each, small gems, all very desirable. Those together with the extras we acquired in the early days have put us in a position to continue to offer selective Maine tourmaline for a dozen more years.
World Peace
Today, we watch the World markets closely. We saw this pink pear-shaped tourmaline from Brazil. Awesome color, great value. We jumped on the opportunity to acquire. This is the biggest, prettiest pink we have seen in two decades. We wanted to do something special so we surrounded it with diamonds and named it “A Prayer for World Peace”.
