This is Almost Impossible, Zambian Emerald & Diamond Earrings

Once or twice a year, there is a moment when I acquire something, and I feel giddy. Acquiring these emerald and diamond earrings is one of those moments.

First, the design is pretty. The arc of diamonds at the top of the emerald adds a little glitter where it meets the shepherd’s hook.

Second, the true source of this giddy magic: the center gem in each is a cabochon emerald. They look remarkably like a fine Jade, but are really emeralds. The gems measures 9 x 7mm. The approximate total weight is over 3.91 carats.

I’ve never seen cabochon emeralds so fine. The green looks like milk and green kale put into a blender and mixed on high. The color is pure, smooth, and green.

I will admit this is the first time in 20 years that I’ve been excited about emeralds. This limited collection is rare and beautiful. I can attest to the quality of these gems. Could we make more? Maybe. In the world of fine gems, future availability is always in question. I’m surprised by these new emerald pieces because they are so beautiful.

I know the emerald mine in Zambia is experimenting with the new gem and is starting off with low prices. I know our partner is experimenting with these new gems and designs, and also being conservative with pricing. We feel fortunate to have some of these early emeralds.
