This is Almost Impossible Zambian Emerald & Diamond Necklace

Once or twice a year, there is a moment when I acquire something, and I feel giddy. Acquiring this emerald and diamond necklace is one of those moments.

First, the design is pretty. The halo of diamonds wraps around the green, then does a loop-de-loop at the top with an articulated diamond loop at the very top, which allows for an 18-inch chain to move freely.

Second, the true source of this giddy magic: the center gem is a cabochon emerald. It looks remarkably like a fine Jade, but is really an emerald. The gem measures 11 x 8 x 2.7mm. The approximate weight is over 3.5 carats.

I’ve never seen a cabochon emerald so fine. The green looks like milk and green kale put into a blender and mixed on high. The color is pure, smooth, and green.

I will admit this is the first time in 20 years that I’ve been excited about emerald. I can attest to the quality of these gems. Could we make more? Maybe. In the world of fine gems, future availability is always in question. I’m surprised by these new emerald pieces because they are so beautiful.
