For people today, the moon and its phases are a minor event. For our great-great-grandfathers and great-great-grandmothers, the moments of the moon were something they watched closely, especially in their teens and early 20s. Today, we have electric lights, and automobile headlights light our way at night.

Most people are unaware that there are two crescent moons. The evening crescent moon has points that open to the left. That crescent is growing and in two weeks will become a full moon. The other crescent is two weeks after full, and is a vanishing moon with points open to the right.

The full moon is in the center, with crescents like parentheses bracketing the moon. In our Goddess rings, the full moon is the center gem.

Why Was the Full Moon Anticipated?

Why was it important to everyone, and especially the youth 16-22? The full moon, especially in the country, was when social events were held because they could see their way home at night. Horses and wagons did not have headlights. Country roads had no streetlights. Barn dances, square dances, bean suppers, and other social events were scheduled around the full moon for the safe passage of participants.

This crescent moon ring is special because it has two crescent moons of diamonds on the east and west sides of our featured center gem, the full moon. It is one of our simplest ring designs and is deeply meaningful, with the phases of the moon shown. This ring will light your way.
