Who Invented the Twilight Cut?
Maine Tourmaline Necklace
We didn’t invent the Twilight cut gem style. We did however, invent the name. The Twilight cut was previously called the opposed bar cut. We didn’t like the name. So, one December day we stepped outside, looked at the twilight sky and noticed that as you move up the column of air and sky, the color changed and got darker as you looked higher. We liked the name Twilight cut and so renamed the style of cutting. Our first gem was Eureka Blue Maine Tourmaline which mirrored the progression of blue-sky colors. After the Eureka Blue, our customers loved the Twilight cut so much that we continued cutting new green Maine Tourmaline discoveries in the Twilight cut. There is so much to love in the magic of cubes of light twinkling up and down the length of the gem.
Going back to the name, imagine this, you have a monster size paper punch that punches rectangular shaped holes rather than the traditional round paper punch, and this monster paper punch has the ability to punch sections of sky out of the night sky. Tilt that gem toward you and also away and you will see progressions of evening sky light and dark twinkling up and down the length of the gem. People love this twinkly light phenomena. We sell more twilight cut gems than any 100 jewelers put together, partly because there are no pre-done mountings made for gems like these. We, Cross Jewelers, handmake all mountings for these unique gems.
The Twilight cut gem looks awesome in its setting. We guarantee you’ve never seen anything like this gem. We love the Twilight cut and 7% of the tourmaline that we sell are cut this way. Acquire a Twilight cut gem, and you have this new style of gem cutting, which you will seldom see out in the world today, unless we sold it. The cutting creates little flashes of light that twinkle up and down the length of the gem. At the top of the design, we have set a single ½ moon diamond. It provides the spark of pure white light to ignite the fire of the rectangular blocks of lightning that shoot up and down the length of the gem.
