Wow! Blue Sapphire & Diamond Necklace

My first reaction was “Wow!” because this sapphire’s blue is so bright and true—like the richest blue color in the sky on a perfect day. The balance of that perfect blue surrounded by the brilliance of pure white Earth-mined diamonds is breathtaking. As a jeweler, I see many pretty gems every day; it is rare that I am truly wowed.

The Gems

This is a blue sapphire to sing about. It’s a cushion cut, which means it’s a squarish round or a rounded square. The cutting is awesome, resulting in a brilliant blue 2.48-carat sapphire. Because of the near-perfect symmetry of the sapphire, we set it north-south and east-west with four big 3.5mm round diamonds, also set north-south, east-west, and eight smaller diamonds in between. All 12 natural, earth-mined diamonds together weigh .97 carat and create a brilliant blaze of white surrounding the big blue center. Our setting and 18-inch chain are all white gold.

Why We Love This Necklace

Everyone loves blue. This piece is special because the big puddle of blue is so nice. It’s a really nice big, blue sapphire. We’ve used larger diamonds than we typically do to surround the big, blue sapphire. We chose big diamonds because the sapphire was so nice.
