For ten million years, the sapphire crystal sat undetected in a Southeast Asian jungle. Tigers with blue eyes roamed above. Blue rain swept through. Clouds parted, blue skies showed, and another million years passed. The pretty blue crystal remained, and then, sometime in the last seven years, it was found.
The guy who found the crystal did what every gem miner does with a good gem crystal: He held it to the sun, closed one eye, turned the gem around, and at that moment, he knew this crystal would buy him a house and feed his family for a year. He could feel his heart racing.
When we acquired this finished cut gem, we, too, could feel all his excitement because the sapphire was so sparkly in its pure blue color.
Then, because it was so nice, we did something we’d only done once before. We surrounded it with eight ¼ carat diamonds. I wish I could be transported back to that jungle seven years ago and show the man the ring we made…but then perhaps he already knew its destiny when he found the gem. He could sense its future.
