We Found a Great Ring…
And Made it Better
The original Elizabeth Islands ring we found in an antique store. The gem was bigger, the mounting was bigger, we scaled it down, made it much smaller, and yet, it’s still a substantial ring. It shows a lot of gold, yellow gold, smooth, polished gold.
An unusual aspect of this ring is the gem sapphire goes east-west across the hand. As you wear this ring it shows a lot of gold. It’s smart, sophisticated, and yet, it is the essence of simplicity of design, Easy on the eye. On the north-south sides of the gem the design appears to be open. The gem’s blue color comes right out to the edge of the ring. We can only do this because of the serious under-structure of the ring…yes, the ring is well made…it will wear a lifetime and a half or more.
Why a Cross Sapphire is the Best
We love blue. We know blue. We live by the blue sea, beneath summer blue skies. Our business is located on a peninsula called Portland, surrounded by saltwater on three sides. We can feel the blue ocean pulsing with every tide. From the rooftop of our building, we can see the open sea. Binoculars show ships coming and going on a blue, blue sea.
We love blue sapphire: It is bright, brilliant and is amazingly durable. As the second hardest gem to diamond, it is a highly wearable gem, ideal for rings. We love blue sapphire… we love it so much that we have traveled to southeast Asia to find first-choice colors. We choose a lighter, brighter blue than most American jewelers because it shows up best under a wide range of real-world lighting conditions. Our blue sapphires look and perform best on everything from sunny days to a candlelit dinner for two.
We want your blue sapphire to dazzle you, dazzle your partner and everyone in any room you visit. Cross’ blue sapphires are the best.
Look Closely at the Design
In our opening photo the east-west oval sapphire is locked in the design and held securely by two crescent moon set ends. Our photograph looks like two prongs are holding the gem in place. It’s actually light reflecting at the ends of the crescent sweep, it’s a continuous sweep of crescent gold on the east-west ends…it’s all very smooth to the touch.
We make the ring in three gem sizes in Cross’ two shades lighter blue sapphires. Lovely, quite elegant.
