This morning I leapt out of bed and sauntered over to the picture window. The sun was rising, and the weatherman had predicted the day would be gray. The land was covered in a heavy gray cloud. Out to sea 25 – 50 miles, the sky was clear. The clouds created a canopy that the sun slipped under, bathing everything on the coast in an orange-yellow light. This doesn’t happen every morning, only occasionally, but when it does, the light and the land are pure magic.

I’ve never heard anyone speak of this, but it’s real. Because I saw the sun and the light on the water this morning, my day is different from anyone else’s. A little later, I drove a few miles inland. It was gray, overcast, and raining.
